Frequently Asked Questions
Your Body
What's the difference between the vagina and vulva?
These terms are often used interchangeably, but they refer to two very different parts of the body, and they should be cared for differently.
The vulva is the external intimate area, including the labia, clitoris, and surrounding skin. The vagina is the internal canal connecting the uterus to the vulva. Unlike skin, the vagina is a mucous membrane that naturally regulates and cleanses itself.
This is why the vagina should be left undisturbed, free from unnecessary products or interference. Intimate care begins with understanding the difference.
How often should I wash my vulva?
The vagina is self-cleaning. The vulva is not.
The vulva contains sweat glands, hair follicles, and comes into daily contact with underwear, movement, heat, and external bacteria. Gentle cleansing helps maintain comfort and skin integrity without disrupting the body's natural balance.
We recommend cleansing the vulva regularly using warm water and a gentle, pH balanced cleanser designed specifically for intimate skin.
What does pH mean?
pH measures how acidic or alkaline something is. Healthy skin naturally sits on the acidic side of the scale, which helps support the skin barrier, retain moisture, and maintain healthy flora. Intimate skin is no different. When this balance is disrupted, skin can become reactive, dry, or uncomfortable.
Every Thorn product is carefully pH balanced to support the skin barrier and work in harmony with the body's natural environment.
Thorn Products
Why are Thorn products pH balanced?
The intimate area maintains its own delicate ecosystem, naturally protected by a slightly acidic pH. Thorn products are formulated to respect this environment, not override it.
The Thorn Intimate Cleanser is designed for external use on the vulva and cleanses without stripping, disrupting, or compromising the skin barrier.
At Thorn, we believe intimate care should support the body's intelligence with formulas that feel gentle, balanced, and deeply considered.
I'm experiencing irritation around my intimate area. Should I use the Thorn Intimate Cleanser?
The Thorn Intimate Cleanser was formulated for delicate, reactive skin and designed to support comfort, hydration, and barrier health.
That said, persistent irritation or discomfort should never be ignored. If symptoms continue or feel unusual for you, we recommend speaking with your healthcare professional before introducing any new intimate care product.
I've accidentally used the Intimate Cleanser internally. What should I do?
The Thorn Intimate Cleanser is designed for external use only. If product is used internally, simply rinse thoroughly with warm water until fully removed.
If irritation persists, seek medical advice.
Are Thorn products dermatologically tested?
Yes. Every Thorn product is dermatologically tested to ensure it is gentle, non-irritating, and suitable for delicate skin.
What testing methods are used for Thorn products?
Thorn products undergo Epicutaneous Patch Testing, a recognised dermatological assessment used to evaluate irritation and skin compatibility across a range of skin types.
Our formulas are developed to deliver high performance care without compromising skin comfort.
Can I use the Thorn Intimate Cleanser every day?
Yes. The Intimate Cleanser was designed for daily use and formulated to support the skin barrier through consistent, gentle care.
Can I use Thorn products while menstruating or pregnant?
Yes. Thorn products are formulated to support intimate skin through hormonal shifts, menstruation, and periods of increased sensitivity.
Our formulas remain pH balanced, microbiome conscious, and free from harsh ingredients commonly associated with irritation.
During pregnancy, sensitivities can vary from person to person, so we always recommend consulting your healthcare professional before introducing any new product.

Are the products vegan?
We avoid synthetic raw materials. There can be a lot of misconceptions that vegan beauty products are free from synthetic ingredients and are therefore immediately better. This isn’t necessarily always the case. All synthetic and petrochemical ingredients are vegan and vegan beauty products can include synthetic raw materials, pigments, preservatives, fragrances and formula fillers. Our makeup products can be vegan or non-vegan, but we always use the best possible compositions of ingredients for the intended use. By using organic beeswax for example (which is considered non-vegan) you contribute to a more sustainable bee farming which is important for the whole eco-system. Beeswax is produced by the incredibly industrious honeybee, not by man. It is a sustainable, eco-friendly product, which is harvested alongside honey. Bees not only produce honey and wax, but also act to naturally pollinate crops, thus reducing the need for chemical fertilizers and increasing organic crop yields. The more beeswax that are used, the more bees, the better for the environment. For the Microbioskin™ collection we use only, vegan and plant-based ingredients.
